Passenger Numbers – Aguascalientes Airport

In 2010, Aguascalientes kicked off the decade with a passenger count of 294,100 and ended the period -in 2019- with a global total of 858,400 to post its only dip of the decade -down 1.2%- to close the year at #23 on Mexico’s busiest airports list.

Officially, Aguascalientes International Airport can handle up to 1.5 million passengers per year

The period proceeded with a positive trend and year-on-year increases of 1.7% -in 2011- an impressive 21.8% -in 2012- followed by another double-digit increase of 14.10% -in 2013- and then -in 2014- the annual headcount rose by 18.37%, having handled a total of 540,500 passengers, to cross the half-million-passenger mark for the first time.

Aguascalientes added 93,975 passengers to its 2014 total, to close 2015 with 623,154 passengers

Once again, there was good news regarding the passenger numbers for 2015 at Aguascalientes Airport when it ended with an annual increase of 17.83% to bring the total passenger number to above 600,000 -for the first time- the precise number being 623,154 and thus maintained the airport at #24 on Mexico’s busiest airports list; It was also the first year it handled over half-a-million passengers on only domestic flights.

In 2015, Aguascalientes Airport maintained its position at #24 on Mexico’s busiest airports list

Another positive year followed in 2016, with a 9.7% annual increase to close the period with 693,700 passengers; this figure was divided into domestic and international passengers as follows: 531,700 and 162,100 to give increases of 12.7% and 0.5%, respectively, according to the figures published by Grupo GAP.

Aguascalientes domestic niche posted an annual increase of 12.7% in 2016 with 531,700 passengers

In 2017, Aguascalientes Airport registered a total of 754,100 passengers to post a year-on-year increase of 8.7%; though the domestic passenger count was down -on 2016- it still registered an annual increase of 8.6% -whilst- for its part, the international niche recovered nicely to handle 176,100 passengers and give an annual increase of exactly 9.0% over the previous year. Despite adding over 125,000 passengers in two years, this Terminal remained at #24 on Mexico’s busiest airports list in 2017, proof of the dynamism of the country’s air sector.

In 2017, Aguascalientes registered its 8th consecutive year-on-year growth in passenger numbers

In 2018, the Aguascalientes Airport registered 868,500 passengers to post a highly respectable global annual increase of 15.2%, with the domestic niche contributing 676,800 passengers -up 17.2% on 2017- and the international sector adding a further 191,700 passengers to post an annual growth rate of 8.6%, so both niches did well throughout 2018 at AGU, as reported by Grupo GAP.

In 2018, Aguascalientes Airport upped its standing on Mexico’s busiest airports list by two places to close the year at #22

Unfortunately -throughout 2019- AGU showed a contraction in its passenger numbers -with a global figure of 858,400- to register its only dip in the last decade, down 1.2% on the previous year; the good news it is still not that far off tripling the number it began the decade with, though did slip one place among GAP’s 12 Mexican airports to stand at #10 with regard to the passengers transitting the Group’s terminals last year. On the list of the Republic’s top airports, Aguascalientes closed 2019 down a place to #23.

Grupo GAP releases its passenger statistics rounded up to the nearest hundred, which is why the above numbers end in at least two zeros
