Though the Terminal at MLM airport posted a further passenger decrease in 2011 -of just over 50,000- to see the visitor numbers contracting -to 376,200- the good news is the negative trend bottomed out and -since 2012- Morelia has reported consecutive year-on-year gains. The positive numbers began -in 2012- with 409,300 passengers and, throughout 2013, this airport handled 425,200 visitors, followed -in 2014- with an annual total of 475,900.

In 2015 -its fourth consecutive year of growth- Morelia handled a total of 478,500 passengers

Finally … after eight years … Morelia surpassed its previous passenger record -524,200, registered in 2008- with MLM posting year-on-year global growth of exactly 12% -in 2016- according to the official figures released by Grupo GAP, with a passenger count for the year here of 535,900 which was divided into 268,000 domestic passengers -up 16.9%- thus staying ahead of the international sector by the smallest of margins; the international niche here handled 267,900 to give an annual increase of 7.5%, to push MLM Airport up one place on the country’s busiest airports list in 2016, to #31.

Morelia finally surpassed its previous -2008- passenger record -in 2016- by posting a total of 535,900 passengers for the period

Then, in 2017, the Airport upped its passenger count for the 6th consecutive year by registering a global increase of 15.5% and thus surpassing the 600,000 passenger barrier for the first time; the global headcount for the period was 618,800 passengers, divided into 322,700 passengers in the domestic sector, up 20.4% on 2016; meanwhile, the international niche here registered 296,100 passengers to show a 10.5% year-on-year increase, thus upping its standing once again on the country’s top airports list -this time by three places- to close 2017 at #28.
