Airlines serving the Costa Rica-Mexico international niche
The direct flight options between Costa Rica and Mexico have improved impressively over the last few years. However -earlier this year- Avianca Costa Rica withdrew its services to Mexico due to its restructuring process as a result of economic problems. So, there are currently three airlines covering this international niche with direct flights, four if we include seasonal options. At present, only the ULCC Volaris Costa Rica is serving Mexico from this Central American country.
For its part, Mexico currently contributes to this international market niche with two airlines offering direct year-round services between Mexico and Costa Rica: Grupo Aeromexico, through its affiliate: Aeroméxico Connect, along with the Mexican LCC Interjet, and -on a seasonal basis- the self proclaimed ULCC: VivaAerobus.
According to official figures published by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), throughout 2017, a total of 106,783 people arrived to this Central American country by air from Mexico, thus almost doubling the figure for 2010, which was 54,662. However, throughout 2018, statistics released by the ICT state that the number of air passengers arriving from Mexico dipped to 94,624 last year.
See below for details on the city-pair options currently provided by each of the aforementioned airlines.
