Airlines serving the Ecuador-Mexico international niche
BEWARE: If travelling to Ecuador -effective as of May 1, 2018- all visitors need to present proof of a health insurance policy as a mandatory requirement to enter the country, as determined by the coutry’s Executive Decree No. 310; the said policy must cover the complete time period the visitor intends to stay in the country.
Recently, the international niche between Ecuador and Mexico registered a new entrant with direct services between these two countries, thus meaning the Mexican flagship carrier: Aeromexico -present in this South American country since 2013- is no longer alone in uniting these two Latin America countries.
The second Mexican carrier to intervene in the Mexico-Ecuador market was the Republic’s LCC: Interjet, which initially announced services between these two countries -as of June 2019- but postponed the launch until October 1, 2019., thus expanding its international route portfolio to cover 6 Latin American countries: three in the Central America/Caribbean region and the other three in South America.
As of Nov. 29, 2018., Mexico withdrew the requirement for Ecuadorian passport holders to have a visa to enter Mexico as a tourist, so it will be interesting to see how the Ecuador-Mexico international niche fares throughout 2019.
