The two airlines unting Mexico and Panama in this international niche are Mexico’s flagship carrier Aeromexico, along with Panama’s flagship carrier: Copa Airlines.

The direct flights between Panama and Mexico include services between the two capitals: Panama City and Mexico City, but there are also other Mexican destinations served by way of direct flights from Panama (PTY): Cancun, Guadalajara, Monterrey and -the most recent route launch in this international niche- direct flights uniting Panama City (PTY-PVR) Puerto Vallarta, on the Pacific shore of Mexico’s largest natural harbour, the Bay of Banderas.

Aeromexico, a SkyTeam founding member airline, offers direct services between Panama and Mexico by uniting the capitals of these two Latin American countries: Panama City and Mexico City.

The founding SkyTeam member Aeroméxico is the only Mexican airline to offer a direct route to Panama, connecting Panama City with Mexico City, since the route’s inauguration -on May 14, 2015- when it began the services with daily direct flights between these two capital cities.

Nowadays -Sept. 2019- Aeromexico’s Panama City Tocumen International Airport (PTY) services to Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) are operated using its Boeing 737-700s, with seating for 124 passengers -12 First Class- with the same -daily- services.

Aeromexico is the only Mexican airline currently offering direct Mexico – Panama flights.

Copa Airlines in Mexico
Copa Airlines connects the Panamanian capital with four Mexican destinations: Cancun, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey.

Copa Airlines, a Star Alliance member, has a long history in Mexico, having first united the capitals of these two Latin American countries in 1992, with the launch of its ‘Hub of the Americas,’ the first official ‘hub’ in Latin America.

This Panama City – Mexico City route is still offered by the company, along with a further four Mexican destinations: Cancun, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puerto Vallarta -the latter the most recent- launched by Copa in Dec. 2018.

Copa’s second Mexican destination was Cancun, which it incorporated at the turn of this century. These services unite Panama City Tocumen International Airport (PTY) with Cancun International Airport (CUN) currently -Sept. 2019- offering seven daily frequencies.

The carrier’s third Mexican destination was Guadalajara -introduced in 2006- to connect Panama City (PTY) with Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport (GDL), on a daily basis, which it continues to do.

This carrier currently connects the Panama City Tocumen International Airport (PTY) to Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) with five daily frequencies, and for the Summer 2019 period added a further 3 frequencies in both directions to bring the total to 38 direct flights between MEX-PTY. Departing Mexico City the additional flights were on Mon., Wed. and Saturday, whilst from Panama City, these additions were on Tues., Fri. and Sunday. Copa’s PTY-MEX services currently -Sept. 2019- offer daily flights.

The fourth Mexican destination offered by Copa Airlines was launched from Panama City in Dec. 2011, with direct flights to the Monterrey Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) with four weekly frequencies: Mon., Wed., Frid. and Sundays.

And finally, Copa Airlines incorporated its fifth Mexican destination from Panama City (PTY) to Puerto Vallarta, landing at the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR), with these direct flights -on Dec. 16, 2018- with two weekly frequencies and currently offer the flights on Thurs. and Sundays.

In August 2015, Copa Airlines introduced direct flights connecting Panama City (PTY-VSA) Villahermosa but they have since been withdrawn.

Copa Airlines is the only Central American carrier to offer direct Panama – Mexico flights.
