The flights serving the Turkey-Mexico international niche market are the most recent -August, 2019- to be launched from a new source country, in this case -opening up the new trans-Atlantic options to Mexico- by way of the Turkish flagship carrier: Turkish Airlines, which -by doing so- maintains the company firmly at the head of the list of airlines serving the largest number of countries in the world; the addition of Mexico to this carrier’s international destination portfolio upped its country offering to 126. Turkish Airlines connects Istanbul to both the Mexican capital: Mexico City, and the country’s Caribbean coast resort of Cancun

Turkish Airlines -a Star Alliance member airline- became the first airline ever to connect this European country by way of direct flights to Mexico -on August 21, 2019- and thus upped the number of countries it serves to 126 -as mentioned above- the largest number of any carrier in the world.

On the outward bound leg, the aforementioned services unite the Istanbul International Airport (IST-MEX) Mexico City Benito Juárez International Airport with direct scheduled flights.

On the return leg, Turkish Airlines then departs from MEX to make a stopover in Cancun International Airport (CUN) before continuing on its return to Turkey by flying direct between Cancun (CUN-IST) Istanbul, thereby connecting both the Mexican capital and the Republic’s Caribbean coast to the largest city in Turkey.

The first international flight operated by Turkish Airlines was from Ankara to Athens -via Istanbul- in 1947; currently -Sept. 2019- this carrier serves an impressive list of 266 international destinations
